Jodhpur, the Blue City
Jodhpur was magically beautiful - bright sun, blue houses, colorful dresses, gorgeous turbans, smiling faces, an impressive fort and splendid palaces. The stuff that children's tales of exotic lands are made of.
Brahmin families originally painted their houses blue, using indigo, to differentiate themselves and also to protect against termites and other insects. However, the tradition of painting the houses blue spread to all members of society.
